Update Feb 4th, 2005: An update, Version 1.1.3 has been released. A fix was made so that users searching can only search the forums they have permission to view (previously they could see message titles.)
Update September 6th: Version 1.1.0 has been released; Private Messages are here. Users (if granted the right by the admin) can send private messages. All users can receive a private message, which tends to make it more useful.

For users who are upgrading, download the latest zip to your local machine and follow these steps:

  • Make sure that pm.aspx exists in your base Lasto folder. If not, copy it from the new download alongside the rest of the aspx files.
  • Run the upgrade script in the dbscripts folder (or do it by hand if you like); a column was added to a table and four new stored procs were added.
  • Update lasto.dll in your bin folder.
  • September 5th: Version 1.0.9 has been released; users who can't view posts in a forum won't even see it on their list now so admins can actually have a truly "hidden" forum now.

For users who are upgrading, only Lasto.dll in the bin directory has changed. You can leave everything else in place and only update that one file.

May 13th: What a difference time makes... if you were reading the old news, the cluster install went well. But I have recently switched jobs and towns! I now work for a telcom company writing dotnet backend stuff and gateways all day, which is great fun.

As for Lasto, I definitely want to continue my work on it if at all possible. I am investigating the possibility of using a gotdotnet workspace and making the code open source. There is much to do still.

December 26th: Just a quick note: I have been very busy with work installing a new cluster and dealing with a bunch of problems. In addition, I am in the process of moving.

I plan on picking up work on some new features in January if I can manage it. Please continue to submit feedback, I'll get to it eventually.

I intend to get private messages working as the next step, plus some smaller enhancements and bug fixes.

First of all, there is a small update posted, 1.0.8c. It only fixes posting of alerts by non-admins; in certain situations, a user with the PostAlert right would be unable to post an alert even though they could view the post alert form. If you aren't experiencing this problem, you don't need this fix. The only updated file is Lasto.dll

Secondly, the server is back up after a whole bunch of problems this Thanksgiving weekend trying to get it upgraded. It was just one problem after another, but everything should be working now.

Update: I have posted 1.0.8b to correct a problem when you perform a search and only search on the message body. The only file you need to update is Lasto.dll. This update includes the changes from 1.0.8a.

There is a  small update in the form of 1.0.8a posted. This update fixes a small issue in the theme (an erroneous include in the notsogrey theme), and one or two other small issues.

You can simply update the "show.txt" file from the notsogrey theme and Lasto.dll in the Bin folder.

Welcome to the official Lasto public release! We are now at version 1.0.8.

Many thanks to all those who participated in the beta process. Also thanks to Mike & Sycraft for your input and thanks to iWacky for the original icons.

Expect to see news and updates in this space as events warrant. For now, check out the links to your left to read about Lasto, or drop by the official beta forums to see Lasto in action, or to get help.
